Grease-free conveyor and return rollers: a new solution signed igus
Wednesday, May 13, 2015Description :
Grease-free conveyor and return rollers configured in three stages New igus solution with polymer bearings

Igus has just developed a solution for conveyor and return rollers for labelers, packaging machines and the food industry, which can be configured and ordered online in just a few clicks.
It consists of an anodized aluminum tube fitted with ball bearings with maintenance-free flange, delivered ready to be assembled. The bearings are made of high performance xirodur B180 polymer. Therefore, this solution is very light, has a low coefficient of friction and is more economical.
Igus manufactures maintenance-free polymer bearings under the xiros brand with a solution in this range for the moving applications of the labeling, conveying, packaging and food industries. This complete solution consists of a lightweight anodized aluminum tube and two ball bearings with a B180 xirodur flange.
The bearings are made of high quality stainless steel. Due to the high demand in the packaging and conveying sector, igus has ensured that this xiros solution is easy to obtain and quickly available. An online configurator allows the user to build an individual solution in only three steps. The first is to choose the desired inside diameter: 8, 10, 12, 15 or 17 millimeters, the second to select the outside diameter, namely 30 or 38 millimeters, and the third to determine the length of the aluminum tube. Here everything is possible between 25 and 1,500 millimeters. The exact price is displayed once all three parameters are set. A new click allows to put the reference in the basket and to order it online. The order is ready to be delivered within 24 to 48 hours.
Xirodur B180, the universal polymer for a smooth displacement and a very low coefficient of friction xirodur is the name of the high performance polymers that have been developed especially for igus ball bearings. They are currently available in seven variants with different characteristics. The xirodur B180 is the economical standard material.
It resists chemicals and has been designed for temperatures between -40 and +80 degrees Celsius. Dry-running polymer ball bearings have friction coefficients lower than those of greased metal bearings, since the balls are not resistant by the lubricant. This is also why many manufacturers prefer grease-free and maintenance-free ball bearings when load and speed do not play a big role.
The xiros rollers are used, for example, as return rollers for the labeling or packaging of food products, the absence of grease minimizing dirt. The same applies to transport rollers which are used for the packaging of sausages, meat and fish. Their fluidity is an additional asset. Bearings made of polymer balls allow a much smoother start up than metal ball bearings.

Xiros, a complete range of polymer ball bearings Since 2008, igus has developed a wide range of grease-free polymer ball bearings.
The most commonly used are ball bearings with dimensions DIN 625 and therefore similar to metal ball bearings. The range also includes axial stops, multiple bearings, rotating plates or ball bearings. In addition, there are numerous variants such as two-row ball bearings for the absorption of higher forces, rounded outer ring bearings or bearings with lids or end caps.
